Mad Max has been named top dog and we’ve got the full details right now on Trophy Life. Is Mad Max: Fury Road the best movie of the year? The folks at the National Board of Review think so. The National Board of Review has announced their list of the best movies of the year and Mad Max: Fury Road has taken the top spot and named best film of 2015. The nonprofit organization comprised of film professionals, academics and student filmmakers also named Bridge of Spies, Creed, The Hateful Eight, Inside Out - which was also named Best Animated Feature - The Martian, Room, Sicario, Spotlight and Straight Outta Compton as the other best films of the year, though they were not listed in any particular order. For those of you wondering why Star Wars: The Force Awakens wasn’t included on the list, Disney has so far not screened the film and while some organizations have delayed their lists until the film releases, the National Board of Review decided to not include it. In addition to the ten best films of the year, the NBR named Matt Damon as Best Actor for The Martian, Brie Larson was named Best Actress for her role as a kidnapped mother in Room, Sylvester Stallone was given Best Supporting Actor honors for Creed and Jennifer Jason Leigh was named Best Supporting Actress for The Hateful Eight. In addition to Best Actor for Matt Damon, The Martian also received Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay honors, while Quentin Tarantino won Best Original Screenplay for The Hateful Eight. For those of you hoping this win for Mad Max could mean it will be included on the list of Best Picture nominees at this year’s Academy Awards, keep in mind the National Board of Review chose A Most Violent Year as the best film last year and that movie was completely shutout at the Oscars. In fact, the last time the NBR and Oscars coincided for Best Picture was 2008’s Slumdog Millionaire.
