June 8th is World Oceans Day and the European Commission was quick to point out their contribution to preventing plastic pollution ending up in the ocean.
"As you know, the Commission is playing its part in this respect. We have recently tabled a proposal that will halt pollution from single use plastic items and derelict fishing gear", said Alexander Winterstein.
EURACTIV asked if the Commission is really credible, when single use plastic is still being used in the Commission canteen, where Commissioners and their staff eat lunch.
In his answer, Winterstein admitted that there is still a lot of work to do.
